Discover if Brain Train is right for your child
At Brain Train, we focus on bright children who are exerting excessive effort and feeling alienated by traditional education methods, which often don’t align with their unique cognitive styles.
Schools typically emphasize content without nurturing essential learning processes, leading to apparent underachievement and perceived disinterest. These issues, often mistaken for laziness or apathy, stem from mismatches in various underlying cognitive skills critical for effective learning.
The results can lead to underperformance or frustrations that may look like laziness or apathy but are actually discrepancies in one or several of:
- Decoding
- Auditory processing
- Executive functioning
- Visual-Auditory Learning
- Visual Processing
- Brain integration
- Processing speed
These students are not lazy! Find out more about how we work.
Beyond the Labels: Understanding Our Students’ Challenges
Sometimes students who have a hard time learning have been given labels. These labels can help with accommodations and with defining where challenges exist. At the Brain Train, we get to the root of why they exist. We help train those skills like a muscle to build a more balanced and successful learner.
At Brain Train, we focus on bright children who are exerting excessive effort and feeling alienated by traditional educational methods, which often don’t align with their unique cognitive styles.
At Brain Train we believe it’s not just about a program, it’s about the individual.
Beyond the Tutor
We are not here to help them get through an assignment or to study for a specific test until the next one. We want to give them the skills necessary to be successful in school without the help of a traditional tutor.
Beyond the Classroom
We help children organize and understand their brains so they can hone it to be most successful in all walks of life: academically, athletically, socially, and in navigating the workplace later on.
FAQs
Q. How do we begin?
A. We like to spend some time with the child in order to get to know them and then conference together on what we recommend (including other resources), what we can offer and how best to fit it into your lifestyle.
Q. How often does my child have to come in order to make progress?
A. We aim to customize each program not only to your child’s needs, but to your family’s needs in terms of scheduling and priorities. Much of the work that we do involves changing neural pathways, which is more successful when consistent and intensive. Therefore, we offer options as infrequent as once per week, but we find that more intensive programs to be more effective most of the time.
Q. How long does it take to achieve your goals?
A. We do not commit to a specific timeline as we know that every child is different. Not only do we use a different mix of programing for a different mix of strengths and weaknesses, but we customize each one and everyone makes progress at their own pace. We strive to get a child to where they can be successful and confident in school and then set them free to do so.
Q. Do you use a specific program?
A. We pull from over 60 different programs as well as numerous that we have created in house over the years. While we are trained in many programs, we pick and choose the parts that are what your child needs most. We strive to avoid wasting time going through parts of a program that they don’t need.
Q. How old does my kid need to be to come to Brain Train?
A. We work with ages 3-50 right now.
